It is coming up to my favorite time of year again, Halloween!!!  This year I have been wracking my brain for an old school mad scientist layout for some pictures.  You see I have this problem, I have to try and one up my costume from last year or make the decorations in the house just that much better than the year before.  As I have gotten older, I have had more money, time, expensive taste in the elaborate set-ups that I crave.  Like most of us, I have resorted to DIYing most of my layouts.  So enough of me talking, let me show you a killer idea I had this year.

So nothing says mad scientist lab like a jar or leeches and a pulsating brain in a jar.

Ok…So this is a band from a good friend of mine – hence the Shameless Plug.  Pesky J Nixon is a Folk band (yes, I said Folk). Personally, I really like to listen to the most eclectic mix of music you can imagine.  We are talking about Les Claypool to Bach to Cradle of Filth to Hed P.E but I was never one for folk or country.  So for me to say I really like Pesky’s stuff is just…weird. Ethan gets extra respect, due to the fact he has to deal with me on a daily basis because we work together.  I am in a nice mood right now so I am going to include their music player too.  Check out their site and buy a few tickets to go see them in person (something I have yet to do, but hey…he hasn’t visited me yet either). They are a damn good time!

bulbdial clock

When I first came across this clock I was like, “No way…that can’t keep time let alone be able to read the damn thing”.  Then the more I studied how it worked and was made I realized that as long as the sun isn’t shining right on it it would be fine.  Here is an excerpt from the Evil Mad Scientist lab blog.

That’s like a sundial, but with better resolution– not just an hour hand, but a minute and second hand as well, each given as a shadow from moving artificial light sources (bulbs).

We’ve recently put together a working bulbdial clock, with an implementation somewhat different from that of the original concept.

And put together a new concept they did.  If you follow the jump at the bottom of this post you will see exactly how to make your own Bulbdial Clock.  I plan on building one of these myself.

Yep…This is so my next project.  I will not let the Turbine Engine, The Flame Thrower, or anything else stand in my way of this one.  What’s that rent is due?  Tell them to go to hell I am building a classic here!
